Hellenic age constitutes the period from the date of the first democracy in Athens to the year 323 BC when Alexander the Great dies. On the other hand, the Hellenistic age constitutes the period between the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC and the annexure of Greece by the Romans in 146 BC.
The culture of Hellenic age was dominated by the ethnic Greeks and the scholars were mainly from the Greek heartland, for example, Aristotle, Plato, Socrates and such other great scholars were from Greece. In contrast, Hellenistic age was dominated by all ethnic people around the Mediterranean, whoever spoke the Greek language.
Small city-states dominated during the Hellenic age while larger monarchies dominated the Hellenistic age.
During the Hellenic period, the civilization was isolated and little influenced by the outsiders while during the Hellenistic age the Greek-like civilization was heavily influenced by outside forces.
